Sara Goes to the Vet

I've been a slacker about taking pictures. But I did take Sara to the vet for a check-up yesterday. A new animal hospital opened about 6 blocks away. Since Sara hates car rides, I figured I could put her in her Sherpa carrier and take a leisurely stroll over there. What I found was that she's very heavy (almost 16 pounds)! On the bright side, the vet (whose name is Sarah) said she's in impressive health for a 13 year old cat. To celebrate, I got her yet another catnip banana on the way back.

An Unflattering Photo

Oh no! I've caught Sara in a fat cat pose. She won't be pleased about that! But goodness. Look at that waisteline!

Bollywood Kitty

Sara loves shiny fabrics. Here she's draped herself in a sari, and she thinks she looks as glamorous as any Hindi film star!

Update on Jake

Eww. Jake threw up all over the place. Then he spit out the loooong length of ribbon he swallowed earlier this week. It was still all in one piece. Can you believe it? The vet said he'd be ok, and so he is. Silly kitty!

Once We Were Little

Will and Jake are 3 years old this week. Well, more or less. I found them on the street in September. The vet guessed that they were about 4 months old. I still can't believe how seamlessly they've adapted to being house cats. Jake saw the litter box and instantly knew what it's for. And Will took an immediate liking to the scratching post. The stripes on their tails are gone now, and they weigh about 4 times more. But they're still as cute as ever!

Clean

Sara is very conscientious about grooming herself. It seems to take 100% of her attention. Not so the gray brothers. They might give themselves a cursory lick now and then. Could it be the age difference (she is almost 14, they've just turned 3)? Or because she was borned in a sock drawer while they spent their first 3 months as street cats?

A Cat Emergency (Maybe)

My cats think of laundry folding as a group activity. It started with Sara napping, princess-and-the-pea style, on just-folded stacks of towels and sheets. Then Will one-upped her by draping himself all over whole piles of clothes. Jake usually just curls up in a corner, but today he ate a 3-foot length of ribbon that used to be attached to a skirt. He ran when I tried to stop him, and by the time I caught up he'd already swallowed the whole thing.

Now I'm worried. My friend Catherine's cat Cleo had to have surgery after she ate pieces of ribbon from a cassette. Jake seems fine, but will call the vet tomorrow.

Am I on Technorati??

Sara's all about being the center of attention. Why would anyone want to look at a computer screen instead of her?

Aerial View

Jake spents a lot of time hiding by himself in secluded places. I can relate; I'm not very outgoing either. Sometimes he looks so soulful. I wonder what he's thinking?

But Will's a big chatter box; always clamoring for attention. When we first met, I thought he meowed because he was hungry. But food's not such a high priority for him. He'd rather be picked up and petted.

Fitting in

I bought a t-shirt online and it came in a smallish box. Sara spent the whole morning trying to squeeze herself into it. This required sitting up on her hind legs and folding herself in half. It looked so uncomfortable, but she seemed pleased with herself.

Her carrier, on the other hand, is much more spacious.

Troublemaker

She looks calm and quiet, but don't let her fool you! She's getting ready to push all the papers and CDs over the edge and off the desk. And she'll look startled every time something lands with a thud. How rude! Who dares disturb her rest?

Scared

I tried to give him a toy mouse, and he made like it might eat him! Poor Jacob. He's not very brave - and not too smart either. But at least he's handsome.

Wild Thing

Just found this photo on a dusty old CD. He's probably a relative of my gray cats; saw him on the vacant lot where I found the kittens. When I tried to come closer, he swished his tail and walked away. There's a condo building on that lot now. I hope he's sunning himself in a new comfy spot.
